Abstract
The objective of this article is to analyze the media portrayal of Alvise Pérez, lea-der of Se Acabó la Fiesta party, during the 2024 European Parliament elections in Spain. The qualitative study was based on content analysis of 36 articles published in El País and El Mundo from May 24 to June 16. The results reflected how, during the electoral campaign, the press projected a critical image of the politician and used Vox as the main reference when introducing the subject and anticipating his possible representation in the European Parliament, mainly based on the votes of young men. In the comparative analysis, El País was found to maintain a more critical and incisive approach, also a greater volume of articles, especially during the electoral campaign, when El Mundo maintained a more neutral tone. After the elections, more critical discourses appeared in both newspapers, with more acute figures of speech and the expression of a general concern about the electoral situation. The predominant frames used in the media were attribution of responsibility, conflict, and morality. Special relevance was given to the ethical responsibility of the media itself and other social agents in the visibility and representation of the SALF leader in the public sphere. However, blaming the electorate did not prevail and their vote decision was considered to be the protest against the shortcomings of the party system and the quality of democracy.
